Why would you be interested in writing an eBook? Looks like a lot of work for very little reimbursement, right?
The eBook market is a highly profitable and growing, one of the most dynamic segments of the Internet. How is it People? The year 2006 saw an increase of 24.1% in sales of electronic books to 54 million. According to Business Week, sales of electronic books are up 59% in 2007 compared to 2006, and these numbers will continue to grow. Ebooks offer a number of advantages not available in print media, including:
- Ebooks are available for immediate download. The buyer has never to leave their homes to dispose of the information at hand. (This also makes the eBook ultimate impulse buy!) There no shipping and handling. Ebooks can be downloaded in minutes, 24 hours, seven days a week.
- The PDF offers interactive features not available in print. Navigation e-book (when it is properly set up) is a component snap, allowing the reader to easily skip around to areas relevant to the work of a click. Links can also be put in the e-book, allowing easy navigation to relevant websites. In addition, a search mechanism for specific words is available in PDF format.
- Ebooks Prices are generally comparable to print books.
- Getting a book published and available to purchase is much faster electronically and in printed form. There is no binding printing or distribution concerned.
- Ebooks are environmentally friendly. No trees were cut, and no pollution has been created in the process production.
- Other interactive features may be incorporated in the book, including video, audio and animation.
- Formatting such as font size, can be more easily controlled by the reader. This makes the text easier to read for persons with disabilities.
- Additional documents can be easily included in the package to purchase. This includes other ebooks, software and other downloadable materials.
So what are the drawbacks?
If I'm going to list useful, so in the interest of fairness, I must list the cons of electronic vs. media printed.
- Emotional attachment to the printed book. I am extremely guilty of this. Looking at text on a screen is a poor substitute for the feel and texture of a product, well constructed book.
- Computer and Internet access required. Same if, in this day and age, most people own a computer with Internet access, there is still a significant percentage of the population has no interest in owning a computer.
- Ebooks have no resale value intrinsically.
- Books printing are completely portable.
- An eBook is removed from existence with the crash of a disk drive.
How much money will I make writing an Ebook?
Many factors come into play here, all that you have control over. Here is a list of factors you should consider to maximize your income.
What subject did you choose to write?
Let's face it: a book about travel to Uzbekistan does not sell nearly as well as an electronic book about love or money. Ebook is about the most important factor in how the book sells.
How Priced Ebook?
An e-book that is overpriced will not sell. There are many circumstances in which it actually pays to give!
Choose carefully Title
A well chosen title goes a long way to sell your eBook.
Marketing
Marketing is the "other factor single most important "in determining the success is an electronic book.
